Alianza Agrícola is a group composed of and led by immigrant farmworkers in Western and Central New York. The group came together in April 2016 to create a better future in New York State for the families and communities of immigrant farmworkers. Since Alianza Agrícola’s founding, our members have become important organizers and leaders in the success of the Green Light New York driver’s license campaign, as well as participating in coalitions to pass the New York Hero Act and the Excluded Worker Fund.
Alianza Agrícola seeks a part-time or full-time Coordinator to support the organization’s key projects, organizing and campaigns. The position is based in the area surrounding Rochester, NY. The Coordinator will work with Alianza’s leadership team, members and Allies.
Responsibilities:
Support and help organize public events
Coordinate Alianza Agrícola’s relationships, communications and outreach to individual allies, partner organizations and new groups
Support campaigns to improve labor conditions of farmworkers
Participate in meetings (in person and remote) with the members of Alianza Agricola
Interpret for members of Alianza Agrícola during phone calls, meetings and events
Complete reports and help with organizational development
Help with logistical support for monthly membership meetings
Provide administrative support
Coordinate training and leadership development opportunities for Alianza members
Qualifications:
Commitment to supporting grassroots leadership of workers through leadership development, community organizing, and popular education
Experience organizing for workers’ and/or immigrant rights
Bilingual (oral and written) English/Spanish
Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to drive in rural areas
Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours (such as nights and weekends) and to travel
Good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Strong interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills
High levels of self-motivation and independence, as well as the ability to work as a team
Facility with common computer software, information databases, internet, social media, and email
Be responsible, trustworthy, flexible and humble
At this time, the position will be offered on a one-year contractual basis and paid as a consultant, with the option to renew depending on our budget. The initial salary will be based on the experience of the applicant. The Coordinator will be provided with:
A computer
Mileage reimbursement
Reimbursement for monthly cell phone use
