History & Mission

The Alianza Agrícola is New York State’s only worker-founded, worker-led organized group of undocumented immigrant dairy farmworkers. We are membership based, and all members are directly affected undocumented immigrants, mostly from Mexico, who live and work in isolation and poverty on dairy farms in 5 Western New York counties.

The Alianza was founded in April 2016, when Luis Jiménez, Marcos Martinez, Ismael Castellanos, and several other immigrant dairy farmworkers who had lived and worked in Western New York for over a decade came together to regain access to driver’s licenses and amplify farmworker voices on issues like widespread isolation, precarious working conditions, and vulnerability to deportation.

Our Work

As founding members of the statewide coalition of directly-affected groups within New York directing the Green Light Driver’s License Campaign, we won 2 historic statewide victories in June of 2019!
